Design Challenge
This poster series must promote and motivate public interest in a San Diego Buzzy Neighborhood. Explore experimental approaches to poster design and layout to create emotional resonance, beautiful visual hierarchy, and a dynamic, balanced layout.

Creative Solution
The San Diego neighborhood I chose was Point Loma. My process began with designing 20 square compositions, playing with typographic hierarchy and layout. From these explorations, I was able to test the capacity of my font, Aileron, and determine the creative direction for my posters. As an inhabitant of the Point Loma area, I knew I had to highlight the two most notable landmarks: Cabrillo National Monument and Sunset Cliffs. I experimented with cutting up the printed type compositions into interesting shapes, converting them into bitmap TIFFs, and layering them over photographs I took of the neighborhood. This approach gave the posters a very playful and exploratory feel, which reflects the personality of Point Loma and its coastal community.
